Students Making a Change

Transformative leadership opportunities for community college students in educational policy advocacy, innovative community engagement, and organizing

“In many different ways, SMAC empowered and equipped me to become a stronger, more vocal leader for my community in the fight for justice for youth and young women.”

— Chrissy, SMAC Alumnus

"SMAC Leadership has given my life purpose. SMAC provided safety, comfort, friendship, family, and love. And most of all, SMAC provided me with a platform to be a voice for others and for myself."

— Elitininanesi, SMAC Alumnus

“SMAC has given me the desire to be an advocate for equitable education. I desire to become a physics and math teacher and encourage more students of color to pursue careers in STEM.”

— Austin, SMAC Alumnus

who we are

SMAC is a student-led program that works to create transformative leadership opportunities for community college students in educational policy advocacy, innovative community engagement, and organizing.

SMAC Fellows are powerful, insightful and fully engaged in the work of improving the conditions for community college students. They are not afraid to engage at the heart of power with administrators, faculty, staff, trustees, and even elected officials at the state level. SMAC Fellows have become a central student voice for equity at City College of San Francisco, representing and advocating for some of the most marginalized students at the college.
