Our Mission + vision

Our Mission

Our mission is to equip and engage Black and Brown Community College students to positively transform the deep structural inequities now present in Community Colleges as reflected by the achievement gap and low retention and transfer rates of underrepresented students of color. SMAC accomplishes its mission by creating leadership opportunities for students in educational policy advocacy, innovative community engagement and organizing.

Our Vision

SMAC envisions a CCSF and Community College system that centers students and is guided by principles of access, inclusion, social justice, racial justice, freedom and liberation, and empowerment. We believe these principles are essential for a high quality public education system with exceptional rates of completion, transfer and career readiness. Students Making a Change recognizes that there is an abundance of talent and potential throughout Community Colleges, but all too often students are not given the opportunity or supports to make a difference in the ways colleges are shaped. SMAC provides a platform for students that does not currently exist in order to improve a system of public education that has an ability to transform the social and economic conditions in which these students live.
